Charity Golf Day tees off Magherafelt Presbyterian Church restoration fund

A CHARITY golf day kickstarts the fundraising efforts to undergo restoration on the historic First Prebyterian Church in Magherafelt.

First Magherafelt Presbyterian Church began in 1736 and has been located at its current site on Meeting Street since 1738. The church has considerable historical significance and prominence in the town, having one of the three spires for which Magherafelt is known.

The church members hope to embark on a programme of repair and future proofing to the sandstone work incorporated into the main fabric of the church building.

The work will cost an estimated £400,000 and it is hoped that the ‘Charity Golf Classic’ will start a successful series of fundraising efforts. The golf day takes place on Friday 29 June at Moyola Park Golf Club.

Money will be raised through entry fees and sponsorship for the golf day and the format will be a four-person team stableford competition.

Competitors will be treated to some food and supplied with a golfer’s emergency pack for their round. Afterwards the competitors can retire to the Moyola Park Golf Clubhouse where prizes will be given out and enjoy a table quiz from 7.30pm.

The Church has received some preliminary approaches from business and local figures have been encouraging and they are hoping to make a big dent in their fundraising target. Teams of four can enter with an entrance fee of £100 per team.
