City follows NW Belfast and Strabane as ‘sick’ capital

MORE people per capita are dependent on Disability Living Allowance in Londonderry than anywhere in Northern Ireland outside West and North Belfast and West Tyrone, according to the Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland.

At the end of last year 13,810 people out of a population of 103,000 in Londonderry (13.4 per cent) were claiming DLA.

The highest per capita rates were in West Belfast (19.4 per cent); North Belfast (14.7 per cent); and West Tyrone (13.9 per cent).
