A Co Derry man who drove at 125mph on a motorway because he needed to use the toilet urgently has been disqualified from driving.

James Maitland, 29, of Clagan Cottages, Claudy, admitted speeding on June 4.

A defence solicitor told Antrim Magistrates’ Court the 29-year-old accepted he had been driving at a ridiculous speed.

The solicitor added: “He had been to Tandragee and was coming back up the motorway and needed to go to the toilet very, very urgently.”

District Judge Alan White banned Maitland from driving for four months and fined him £200.

He also ordered the defendant to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
