DUP MLA Ian McCrea has added his voice to the growing anger over the Coagh IRA men inquests.
Sandra Overend and the Innocent Victims United group hit out at the news reports in which the frustration of the IRA men’s families were expressed over the delay to their inquests.
Sinn Fein, Ciaran McElhone responded saying the dead republicans had been ‘victims of the conflict’.
Ian McCrea hit back “there was absolutely no parallel between victims and those who were killed by the security forces whilst engaged in terrorist activities”.
“The three men killed by the SAS were terrorists going out to perpetrate murder. I feel a sense of disgust given the countless numbers of families in Northern Ireland who have never received justice for the evil murder of their loved one.
“It is all too easy for the families of victim makers to point the finger at the security forces, but I issue the challenge for the same families to be more forthright in coming forward if they have information to help the families of innocent victims who were shot or blown up.
“I am well aware of the hurt and loss suffered in the Coagh area and across Mid Ulster and it is high time that the focus was removed from republican terrorists to the innocent victims of the troubles.
“There is absolutely no parallel between victims and those who were killed by the security forces whilst engaged in terrorist activities. It is my desire that those who decide on such inquires, see fit to put the same effort into getting justice for the families of real victims of republican terrorism and not those who were willingly engaged in making victims.”
