Friends of Portsmouth man Kane Leslie appealed on Twitter to anyone who had seen him in Nice to contact Portsmouth publican Steve Hudson, who uses the nickname @hudo, on the social media site.

This morning a friend of Mr Kane - Brian Bower ‏@Luvinthesea - tweeted: “Guys, we still haven’t heard from Kane and we are worried sick. We need this sharing far and wide, let’s get him...”

Kane Leslie has not been seen since Sunday afternoon in Nice when he was last in a bar with plans to sleep on the beach, according to tweets by his friends.

It follows the death of Darren Rodgers in the French south coast city when he fell from a promenade.

Nice’s pebble beach is some seven kilometres long.

Mr Leslie’s friend Steve Hudson has been searching tirelessly for him.

He tweeted: “Need some sleep. Please keep sharing #findkane/ he’s lost his wallet apparently as well.”

Mr Hudson has tweeted the last picture taken of him posing outside a bar with a Pompey Loyal flag in the background.

Among those who retweeted the appeal was Calum Best, son of east Belfast football legend, George Best, and radio DJ and soccer pundit Colin Murray.
