Conflicting versions of ‘hurley attack’ at Kilrea parade

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into an alleged attack on a loyalist band member who is reported to have been struck on the head with a hurling stick.

Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea described it as a “completely unprovoked attack” and “commended Dunamoney Band for acting in a dignified manner and not retaliating to this disgraceful act.”

Coleraine police said in a statement this week that a “short altercation then ensued”.

“No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries are ongoing,” said a spokesperson.
