Carol E Kelly will travel to Edinburgh next month to pick up the prestigious award on behalf of herself and local fimmaker Paddy Trolan.

The short 2011 film, ‘Considering Carol’ is a brief yet insightful look into the sometimes troubled yet often brilliant life of the schizophrenic poet come karaoke queen.

Carol told the Times last week: “I’m delighted that the film has won joint first prize.

“I’ll be going to Scotland to pick up the award as Paddy is currently in California.

“The film is a poem about me going into hospital and how I feel when I come out of it.

“The film does end on a positive note.”

Carol is both honoured and thrilled that the film - which lasts four-minutes - will be shown on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile during the Festival.

She will pick up the award on October 23.

Carol has also been invited to perform her poetry.

The theme of the 7thScottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival is ‘Reality’. The aim of the festival is to promote positive attitudes towards mental health, mental illness, support and recovery, and to effect significant cultural change amongst opinion through the insights and influences of the creative arts. The festival fundamentally seeks to strengthen the links between arts, community and public organisations.

The 2013 festival will take place during October with the aim to showcase local projects that use the arts and film to promote mental health and well-being.
