COOKSTOWN councillors united last week in condemning the arson attack on DUP MLA Ian McCrea’s car.
At the monthly meeting, the SDLP’s James McGarvey led the condemnations, saying he had thought this type of behaviour was all in the past.
Council Chairman, Sinn Fein councillor Sean Clarke agreed adding: “We do not want to see anyone in this position, no matter who they are.”
Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson said: “I totally condemn it, especially with young children in the house.”
DUP councillor Sam McCartney also condemned the attack on his colleague and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
Ulster Unionist councillor Sam Glasgow and DUP councillor Maureen Lees also condemned the attack.
Councillor McCrea thanked everyone for their comments adding that while he expected to be attacked verbally, he never expected anything of that nature.
“It was a traumatic experience,” he said adding that his children had been affected by it.
