Man arrested in Tyrone after cross border operation turned up gun and smuggled fuel

A cross border operation has led to the arrest of a man in south Tyrone after he was discovered with a firearm “in suspicious circumstances”.

The sting, which involved the PSNI, DARD, Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine and An Garda Síochána, saw a number of properties in counties Tyrone and Monaghan searched on Monday [November 16].

A quantity of suspected smuggled diesel was also uncovered and it is understood that documentation and other items were seized by DARD.

Inspector Keith Jamieson said: “The operation, which took place on Monday in the South Tyrone area, was co-ordinated with colleagues from An Garda Síochána, Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine, DARD and HMRC.

“One man was arrested for possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and has been released pending report.”
