A Cookstown man has been banned from driving for six months and fined £850 after police stopped him in the Union Street area on April 20 in a car with Donegal plates.
The windscreen appeared to be cracked and having stopped the car, officers discovered the registration place had been taped over the correct one.
Driver, Mark Kiernan, 21, from Church Street said he had attached the false plates to avoid being stopped by police. It later transpired there was no insurance on the vehicle and it was listed as off-road. Kiernan admitted all charges at Dungannon court where a defence barrister said his client had just bought the car.
Judge John Meehan said: “All these elements show a highly manipulative attitude.
“He went to extreme measures to have a car unlawfully on the road.”
