Motorist fined £150
A motorist detected travelling at 70mph in a temporary speed restriction on the Cookstown dual carriageway, was fined £150 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Maria McCullagh (44), of Bancran Road, Draperstown, was also given four penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender levy.
The court heard the detection was made on July 3 last when a temporary 40mph speed limit was in place at the time.
A defence lawyer said the defendant is a mother of three children and has no live points on her record.
He said the detection was made in a temporary 40mph zone on the dual carriageway where the speed limit is normally 60mph.
The lawyer added that her licence is essential as she works in her husband’s business.
