Motorist fined £200 on speeding charge

A Cookstown man caught doing 91mph on the dual carriage, was fined £200 with a £15 offender levy at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A Cookstown man caught doing 91mph on the dual carriage, was fined £200 with a £15 offender levy at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Nater Augusto Semedo from Oldtown Street, was also given four penalty points.

The court heard the 38-year-old was detected on July 21 last year at 6.30pm.

A PPS lawyer said the defendant was 31mph over the limit for the road and a fixed penalty could not be offered because of the speed he was doing.
A defence lawyer said the defendant is Portuguese and has been living here for the last 11 years. He pleaded with the court not to impose a disqualification as the defendant needed the licence for his work and family.
