A teenager was left standing by the side of the Cookstown dual carriageway after being dealt with by police for having no insurance, Magherafelt Magistrates Court was told on Wednesday.

A lawyer for 19-year-old Alex McMillan from Bells Hill, Castledawson, said he was “not sure how that happened” to such a young man who had to find his way back into the town.

McMillan was fined £200 with a £15 offender levy and banned from driving for 14 days for having no insurance on June 3 last.

Pair were refused bail.

His lawyer said he genuinely believed he was insured.
