Alwin Ernest Steele (35) of O’Neill Park, admitted a charge of possessing the drug on July 19, 2018.

Prosecuting counsel said police stopped the car in the Sandholes area and located the canister which contained 13 grams of herbal cannabis with an approximate street value of £130.

A defence lawyer said the incident happened three years ago and the defendant “had moved away from that life”.

He explained that the defendant had financial difficulties at the time and was also taking drugs.

The lawyer added that he had also been given a suspended sentence by the Crown Court.
