Crumlin business park gets green light

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan gave the green light to the park that will consist of 23 small units and 2,000 square metre floor spaces.

The new units will be located on part of a former World War Two Air Force camp site associated with the Langford Lodge airfield.

Mr Burns said that the development which will be on a brownfield site has been three years in the making.

“This will be great asset and ideal for small businesses to come and set up on a great site on the Largy Road,” he said.

“There have been so many success stories in relation to small businesses. This is a great jobs and economic boost.”

Minister, Mr Durkan said: “This is a boost for Crumlin. This approval is to be welcomed as it regenerates a former industrial site which was previously used for meat processing.

“It will also bring construction jobs in the short term.

“Increasing the availability of small business units should encourage more businesses in to the area.”

DOE Planning consulted with Antrim Borough Council on February 27 2014 who raised no objections to the proposal.

The proposal is for a business park consisting of 23 small business units with new access road and associated car park at lands south west of 73 Largy Road, Crumlin.

The applicant is Mr Patrick McAllister.

There was one letter of objection and one letter of representation received to the application.

Last July, the Environment Minister also approved a 3,000 square metre aircraft component manufacturing facility nearby at Langford Lodge which will help create new engineering posts within the new factory extension.

“This approval not only represents potential new jobs but also helps to secure the existing jobs at the site,” Mark Durkan said at the time.

“I as Minister not only want to protect the environment, but also do everything I can to create jobs and develop the economy.

“I am determined to make decisions swiftly with all planning applications under consideration in my Department and particularly decisions where job opportunities are at stake.”
