Davy helps little Callum’sbattle to see

COLERAINE’S Caring Caretaker has made a surprise donation to a Limavady tot for life-changing treatment in China to restore his eyesight.

Davy Boyle has pledged to give £1,000 to fundraising for little Callum Logue.

Callum from Limavady was born an apparently healthy baby but was later discovered to have septo-optic dysplasia, the same syndrome which Katie Price’s son Harvey was born with.

Family and friends have been fundraising to send Callum to China for two sessions of treatment - each costing around £22,000 each.

A relative of Callum’s, Noleen Glass who is proprietor of Martha’s House in Coleraine, told the Times that people from all over Northern Ireland have been helping with the fundraising.

And it was thanks to her fundraising for other charities which resulted in a surprise boost for Callum’s charity.

“We would help fundraise for Davy Boyle’s charities especially Chest Heart and Stroke and Davy comes in here all the time to see us,” said Noleen.

“Then when he heard about Callum and the charity fundraising of Callum’s Chance for Sight, Davy said that he would help.”

The Caring Caretaker will now donate £1,000 to Callum’s Chance for Sight at his annual charity cheque presentation in February.

Noleen explained: “The syndrome which Callum has is very rare and the only treatment is available in China. It is still being trialled in the UK.

“Callum’s doctor is ready to release his file to China so we are busy fundraising to raise the remainder of the money.

“Hopefully it will work for him because it would change his life and would help him to become self-sufficient.

“At the moment, his mum and dad need special equipment for him, he is fed through a tube, he needs a special sensory room and an extra room for a nurse to stay in when she comes in to give his parents respite care.”
