Dobson reflects on 2012

IN wishing everyone a happy New Year Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson looked back over the last 12 months saying; “In all, 2012 was a year rich in opportunities to be proud to be British.

“Throughout the year we joined together with people from all corners of the United Kingdom to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. In June Northern Ireland proudly hosted Her Majesty, accompanied by Prince Philip as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

“And it was with an immense sense of pride we watched the heroes of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, held in our capital London, as they did us proud in representing team Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the World stage.

“It is also fitting that many of them have been further acknowledged in recent days by Her Majesty through the New Year’s honours list.

“I would also pay tribute to those worthy local recipients whose honours are indeed richly deserved.

“Financially, 2012 heralded yet more tight budgets and difficult conditions continue for many families across the country. I would like to pay particular tribute to those individuals and companies who continue to grow and expand, ensuring our future economic stability once the storm in world markets has calmed down.

“As we enter 2013 it is my wish that we all continue to create more opportunities to be proud and to fly the flag for Britain.

“May I take this opportunity to wish you and all your family and friends a very happy, peaceful and healthy new year.”
