A YOUNG South Derry man who threw a pint glass at a bar mirror, was ordered to carry out 100 hours community service when he appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

Declan Owen Michael Woods (21), of Millview, Castledawson, was also placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to make restitution of £570.

He admitted causing criminal damage and disorderly behaviour at the Dry Dock Pub in Rainey Street, Magherafelt, on September 15 last year.

A prosecuting lawyer said the incident happened around 9pm when the defendant came in and attacked a number of customers before throwing a pint glass at the mirror breaking it.

He said Woods later told police during interview that every time he took a drink it got him “in to a handling.”

A defence lawyer said Woods was a young man who had a troubled past but was willing to seek help for his problem and pay for the damage.
