Driver 'stupid' to use mobile phone

A Coleraine man was fined and given penalty points when his case was before North Antrim Magistrates' Court last Wednesday.

Peter Neill (23) of Somerset Drive, was stopped by police at Killowen Street on August 20 last year at 6.30pm.

Neill was using his mobile phone whilst driving.

After caution the 23-year-old replied: ‘Stupidity’

Neill’s solicitor Garrett Greene told the court that his client should have been offered a fix penalty notice at the scene, however, he said that police were under the impression that Neill was a restricted driver, and did not offer him the notice.

Deputy District Judge Boyle fined Neill 100 and endorsed his licence with three penalty points.
