Drugs seized in proactive operations

Small amounts of drugs and ancillary items have been seized by police officers following a series of raids in the Donemana, Top of the Hill, Bishop Street, Galliagh and Ballymagroarty areas of Londonderry and neighbouring County Tyrone.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) carried out four drugs searches in the city and a further search in the Donemana area on Tuesday, August 25.

Four houses and an area of open ground were searched.

The PSNI confirmed that small amounts of drugs and other ancillary items were seized as a result of the police operation.

The force also confirmed that four people were interviewed and will now be the subject of police reports to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

The searches were at Mountjoy Street in the Bishop Street/Abercorn Road area, Merriman Court in the Ballymagroarty area,, Holymount Park in the Top of the Hill area and Ferndale in Galliagh and Castlewarren Road in Donemana.

Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan said that the drugs searches were part of the police service’s proactive operations to tackle illegal drugs issues in the new Londonderry and Strabane policing district area.
