Dungannon crash victim laid to rest

Mr Brady (69) died following a crash between a lorry and a tractor pulling a trailer at the junction between Killybracken Road and the A4 near Dungannon on Wednesday morning (June 25).

Funeral mass for Mr Brady, who was known to many as Alex, was celebrated by Father Gregory Carville on Saturday at St Joseph’s Church, Caledon.

The father of four was a well known and respected man in the Caledon community and had worked for several decades at Caledon Estate before retiring a number of years ago.

Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Rodger Burton told the TIMES Mr Brady was a “quiet man”.

“I have know Alex Brady all my life and I know his son Paul and my thoughts would go out to the family at this tragic time.

“Alex was a quiet man, I wouldn’t have know him that well but I have met him a number of times. He was a good neighbour to many around Caledon and it is just tragic what has happened,” he said.

Councillor Burton added: “At this time of year with busy farms it is unfortunately all too common and I would just appeal to all farmers, myself included to try and follow all the precautions that are needed.”

Sinn Fein MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew told the TIMES: “I knew Paul, Alex’s son who was injured in the accident, I went to school with him in Caledon. It is just such tragic circumstances.

“It has been such a tough year this year for farming accidents and also for the parish this last 12 months. My condolences and my prayers go out to the family, to Mrs Brady, her children and her grandchildren.”

The MP added: “It is a terrible blow for the Aghaloo community and the village of Caledon and please God Paul makes a full recovery but it really is a tragedy for all concerned. Alex was very well respected man and well known in the Caledon community.”

Mr Brady is survived by his wife Philomena, daughters Patricia and Lorraine and sons Paul and Patrick.

Two men, aged 50 and 43, arrested in connection with the incident have since been relesed pending further investigations.

Mr Brady was one of three men who died in separate accidents across counties Tyrone and Down last week.

Barney McAleer, 80, from Pomeroy was working alongside his brother on Loughnamarve Road, Lime Hill area on Tuesday evening last week when the accident occurred. It is understood Mr McAleer, was struck by a tractor.

Paddy Wilkinson, who was in his early 70’s and formerly of Ballinderry was killed in a road crash near Downpatrick on Wednesday last.

Mr Wilkinson was out walking on the Killard Road, near Ballyhoran village when he was struck during the crash involving a black Seat Ibiza, a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a Land Rover. Two men were questioned by police in relation to the fatal collision
