DUP man onindependence

UNIONIST stalwart Gregory Campbell has looked forward to ‘halcyon days in the future of Scotland’s independence’ during a tongue-in-cheek exchange at Westminster.

During a debate on the UK’s constituent parts Mr Campbell interjected in the middle of a contribution by Conservative MP William Cash.

He said: “Does the hon. Gentleman agree with me that, having listened to the very eloquent disquisition on the place of Scotland at the top table, and given this week’s announcement about the G8 coming to Northern Ireland, we can look forward, in the halcyon days in the future of Scotland’s independence, to a G9 coming to Northern Ireland, with Scotland at the top table?”

Mr Cash replied: “That is an extremely apposite remark, and I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for it.”
