Durkan admits to'˜waffle' in debate

Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan confessed to '˜waffling' during a debate at the Stormont Assembly on Tuesday.

Mr Durkan turned to his Londonderry SDLP colleague Gerard Diver and sotto voce acknowledged his response to a supplementary question on the preservation and restoration of 18th Century thatched cottages at Magilligan and Garvagh was ‘pure waffle.’

His admission was picked up by the Stormont microphones. The Environment Minister had been talking on his feet after departing from the safety of an initial scripted answer to an Oral Assembly Question from Cathal Ó hOisín.

Although it’s rarely admitted publicly in this manner the Minister is hardly the worst offender. A parliament is literally a waffling place after all.
