A man in his 80's has died following a fire at a house on the Lissan Road in Cookstown, according to police.

Police received a report of a fire at a house shortly before 9.50am this morning.

Emergency Services attended but unfortunately the man was found deceased at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious, has now commenced.

Mid Ulster Council Chairman Cllr Trevor Wilson, who lives nearby, described it as a "terrible tragedy."

"I would like to extend my sympathy to his family circle at this sad time," he said.
