Mid Ulster District Council’s animal welfare officers are to investigate after 13 horses were left stranded on an island near Toome - and three were found dead.
It is understood that rising flood waters left the animals unable to get back to land after they travelled to Lough Beg along a causeway when water levels were low.
Volunteers from Portglenone based Community Rescue Service took hay and feed out to the remaining horses on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council said: “Animal welfare officers have received a complaint and are investigating. It’s too early to say at this point, however, what action will be taken.”
