Ditch the Dark Day at Model

As the mornings start to get darker, it’s important that children know how to be safe and visible on the roads when walking and cycling to school. For their ‘Ditch the Dark’ Day, the whole school dressed up as brightly as possible, and decorated their bikes and scooters.

Not only was this great fun for all the children, but reinforced the message of ‘Be Safe, Be Seen’.

In addition, P6 and P7 children had a go on a very special bicycle – the Sustrans ‘Smoothie Bike’.

This is a specially adapted bicycle that harnesses the energy produced through pedal power, and uses it to power a blender to make a healthy fruit smoothie! The pupils all had great fun, and a couple of teachers even had a go themselves.

Ballymoney Model C.I.P.S. is part of the Sustrans Active Travel programme for the next two years.

Emma Keenan, the Active Travel Officer for Causeway Coast and Glens, said: “I’m really pleased to be involved with Ballymoney Model through the Active Travel programme.

“Encouraging children to walk and cycle to school is a great way to promote an active lifestyle and instil positive habits.”
