The planning application, for the development mixture of residential units near the Ulster Bus depot on Station Road, was submitted in April by Gravis Planning.

A planning statement said the proposed site was “located on lands east of the road and within the current development limit”.

“The area is close to the town centre with shops, public houses and historical churches and public amenity within easy walking distance. It is enclosed by mature trees and vegetation along all boundaries but the site itself is currently in hard-standing with few distinguishing features.

“The site is within the Ballycastle Area of Archaeological Potential and a disused rail track bed also extends into the site from the south. This proposal includes a pedestrian link from the disused rail track bed, through the site and connecting into Station Road and the town centre beyond.

“There is a mix of house types in the town centre, with high density townhouses and apartments dominating. The proposal site is located at the back of Ann Street, the commercial core of Ballycastle, and will provide more housing within the area, providing a similar dwelling density to that found in the immediate area.

"As the application site is located within the settlement development limit and surrounded by existing development, the proposal is considered appropriate in terms of design, size and scale.”

The application will be presented to council members at a future planning committee meeting
