Despite the fact that Cookstown council hobnobs are cheaper than in Dungannon, statistics show that councillor allowances and expenses cost each person who works within the district more.
The total cost for Cookstown’s 16 councillors between April 2012 and March 2013, the latest year available, was £183,859.
This number included councillor allowances, expenses, broadband and travel costs, as well as special allowances for extra roles such as that of committee chairperson.
When this figure was divided out amongst all of Cookstown district’s 24,000 working people, the cost to each was £7.66.
