Experience life on the farm

This weekend Braemar Farm, Castlerock, Buchanan Turkeys, Kilrea, Vowgarve Farm, Ballymoney and Broghthammon Farm in Ballycastle will be four of 21 farms throughout Northern Ireland which will open their gates, fields and farmyards in a bid to improve understanding of our food, the farming families who produce it and the processes which bring it to our plates.

The unique initiative is part of Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend – a completely free, not-for-profit event which runs from Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 15 and is open to the entire community. Ruth Pollock who runs Braemar, a dairy farm in Castlerock will be offering a host of activities to help visitors understand the milk production process, and particularly how it is turned into ice-cream. The milking parlour will be a focus for the day, particularly during milking time and there will be the chance to meet some of the other farm animals. Coleraine YFCU will be helping throughout the weekend, and there will be a BBQ, ice cream sampling and a range of other attractions to appeal to the entire the family.
