Factory worker collided with parked car in Magherafelt, court told

A factory worker who collided with a parked car in Magherafelt and drove on, was fined a total of £215 with four penalty points at the local Magistrates Court.

Mindaugas Margevucius (21), Parkmore, Magherafelt, admitted careless driving, fail to stop, remain and keep his vehicle standing at the scene of an accident.

The court heard at 6.10pm on August 15 last year the injured party reported to police that damage had been caused to her BMW car, which was parked at Westland Road.

A PPS lawyer said on arrival police observed damage had been caused to the rear passenger side of the car.

She explained that CCTV footage from a local business premises showed the collision and a black Bora car making off at speed. Police inquiries led to them the last registered owner and contact was made with the defendant.

The prosecutor said the defendant later made a full statement of admission to the police.

Margevicius, who was not professionally represented, told the court he was “really sorry” for what had happened.

He said he did not “feel” the collision and only realised he had been in one when he got home and saw the damage to his vehicle.
