The family of little Charlie Craig have asked people to pray for their ‘brave boy’ as he undergoes a bone marrow transplant tomorrow (Thursday, 15th May).

Three year-old Charlie has been battling Acute Myeloid Leukaemia since January 2013 and is currently in hospital in Bristol, where he is will undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant after a successful part donor was found on the global register.

Earlier this year, over 1,000 people turned out in Cookstown and Belfast to register as bone marrow donors inspired by brave Charlie.

The family expressed their relief after an anxious wait to hear that the donor had agreed to the procedure.

Charlie was admitted to hospital in Bristol on May 5, and his parents Cliodhna, and Fintan were already aware that it would be ‘the fight of his life.’

In recent weeks, Charlie underwent an intense procedure of conditioning treatment using very strong chemotherapy drugs.

The Craig family have asked the public to pray for their son tomorrow at 10am for the journey ahead, as he undergoes the very intense procedure.

“We need specific prayer for the courage, strength of body and mental stamina to face each stage of Charlie’s treatment with the accompanying challenges which we have been told can be medically managed but are a constant stress.

“We ask you to pray that our very brave little Charlie will get through all of this with the minimum of pain and distress resulting ultimately in the complete cure of his condition and no issues short and long term. “We ask also for prayer that Nancy will have fun and distraction during this time and that this ongoing nightmare will soon be behind us and we will be back to our former normal family life,” they said.

The family added: “We are so filled with gratitude for the prayers, good wishes and support we are receiving daily from so many people in our own country and indeed globally. This is what gives us courage and strength daily to face each challenge. We are profoundly grateful to Charlie’s donor and thank him for his amazing generosity.”

An organisation named Cycling for Charlie was set up last year by Charlie’s dad and a group of cyclist friends to raise funds for cancer research.

After completing a cycle from Mizen to Malin last year and raising over £15k the 2014 cycle will get underway on Tuesday August 19 in Belmullet, finishing Saturday, August 22 in Howth, Co Dublin. A mere 280 miles!

As part of the fundraising push, the Craig family are running an online auction with some fantastic prizes on offer. The auction will contribute towards the Antony Nolan Trust and a fantastic range of prizes on offer including 2 pairs of much sought after One Direction tickets for Croke Park, a 4-ball golf at the prestigious 5* Lough Erne Resort.

Other prizes to be added include: a weekend in Tralee, a signed Liverpool jersey, 4 ball of Golf at Enniskillen GC, Banbridge GC and Lurgan GC, and much more.
