Family of Stewartstown man who died in Malaysia thanks public for their kindness

The family of a Stewartstown man who has tragically died in Malaysia has thanked the public for their kindness at this very sad time, but asked that their privacy be respected.

It is not yet clear how former Dungannon Integrated College Student Gareth Wetton died, but a Go Fund Me page set up to help pay for his repatriation had gathered over $10,000.

Tributes have been paid to Gareth, who has been described as “a genuinely good soul”.

One said: “Truly awful news! One of the nicest fellas around.”

A statement from his family said: “The family of Gareth Wetton is coming to terms with the news of his sudden death. We would like to express appreciation for the kindness and generosity shown to date however we wish to treat this as a private family matter which is not associated with any public campaign or appeal.

“We request that our wishes are respected at this very difficult time.”

Before news of his death, Gareth’s girlfriend, Tian Hu,posted from Kyoto, Japan on Monday: “I lost my bf Gareth Wetton for 2 days. I think he still in KUL. He suppose to get on the flight of CI722 from KUL on 22jul But he didn’t...”
