Fight on against killer disease

Ballymoney was worse than notorious ‘fry-up capitals’ like Glasgow and came only second behind Tameside in Manchester which topped the list produced by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Now training is to be given to people in local communities to help educate people about their lifestyles and also on basic life-saving skills.

Iain McAfee is involved in the scheme and he said the issue is vitally important particularly as he has produced figures which show that ambulance response times in the largely rural Ballymoney area are not as quick as the Northern Ireland average.

Mr McAfee said: “The main reason for the training is as a response to the BHF report. The workshop, which includes training on the BHF Healthy Heart kit and Emergency Life Support, is an attempt to fill a perceived gap whereby there is a lack of local health improvement education.”
