Fire service considering several Limavady sites for new station

Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey revealed a number of options were being considered in response to a query from DUP MLA George Robinson at the Stormont Assembly.

Mr Robinson asked whether consideration had been given to the purchase of additional land, adjacent to the existing facility for the proposed new station and associated training facilities.

Mr McGimpsey replied: “NIFRS is aware of additional land to the rear of Limavady Fire Station and has considered its suitability, along with several other potential sites in the town, for the proposed new fire station.”

A new Fire Station for Limavady is contained in the Fire Station Replacement Programme for the next 10-15 years.

Mr McGimpsey previously advised it was his Department’s intention to progress work towards the replacement of a Fire Station in Limavady within the 2011-2014 period contingent upon funds being made available to progress the project.
