FLASH flooding brought chaos to Mid-Ulster roads this afternoon.

Thunder and lightning accompanied by heavy rain resulted in the flooding of roads in many low-lying areas.

In Magherafelt, motorists were diverted from flooding at Moneymore Road junction with Queen Street.

There was also flooding at Westland Road junction with Rainey Street and on the Castledawson Road beside the Gaelic grounds.

Although the flooding resulted in traffic tailbacks, most of the roads were passable with care.

Fire appliances and police attended a number of the flood sites.
