Former Magherafelt woman Patsy O’Kane ‘delighted’ at MBE award

A FORMER Magherafelt woman says she was “surprised and delighted” on learning that she was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours.

Patsy O’Kane, who is the director of the award winning Beech Hill Country House and Hotel on the outskirts of Derry City, receives the honour in recognition of her service to the tourism and hospitality industry.

“I am delighted!” she told the MAIL today. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that this would happen.”

Local people may remember Patsy - who attended St Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt - starting out on her career in the family business, The Arches restaurant at Market Street, Magherafelt.
