Friends and family rally round Michaella McCollum on her return to Dungannon

There was no welcome home banner or red carpet, but it seems friends and family are rallying around convicted drugs mule Michaella McCollum on her return to Dungannon tonight (Saturday).

Pictures emerged earlier this evening of the 23-year-old leaving Dublin Airport after disembarking a flight from London.

But when our reporter visited her mum’s home in Dungannon to see how Michaella felt about being home, we were told to leave.

Not much later cars started to arrive at the property as people made their way inside - it would seem for a welcome home party - after Michaella’s three years in a Peru prison.

The convicted cociane smuggler has not been back in Dungannon since summer 2013, when she left for Ibiza.

She was arrested in August that year at Lima Airport along with Scottish woman Melissa Reid after 11kg of cocaine was found hidden in food packets in their luggage.

The pair came to be known as ‘the Peru two’.

Melissa Reid arrived back to Scotland in June.
