Fundraising events boost two leading charities by £22,000
Macmillan Cancer Care and Friends of the Cancer Centre in Belfast each received cheques for £11,000 from management and staff at The Scenic Inn near Armoy following a sky-diving effort and two gala nights last May.
The fund-raiser was held in memory of local woman, Geraldine Linton, a former employee at the Scenic who sadly lost her battle with cancer weeks before plans had been finalised for the charity event.

Hide AdGeraldine, a close friend of Shirley McKinley who runs the Scenic, had chosen the charities and thanks to the efforts of scores of volunteers and the generosity of local people, the venture proved hugely successful with some thirty people doing a sky dive and hundreds turning up at the Scenic where a marquee had been set up to cater for those attending two-nights of entertainment.
Shirley had contributed a substantial amount on behalf of the Scenic but was overwhelmed by how much money had been donated by patrons of the Scenic.
“We were completely bowled over by the response and delighted that so much was raised for the charities. Geraldine would have been so pleased with the outcome,” Shirley said.
Representatives from each charity travelled to the Scenic to receive the cheques and to thank the Scenic and the public for their generosity.
