GAA tops are being stolen from clothes lines in Magherafelt to be put on an Eleventh Night bonfire, it was claimed this week.

The thefts from Sperrin Drive and Greenvale Park apparently happened earlier this week and were witnessed by householders.

The culprits are reported to have run off in the direction of the Leckagh housing estate.

“I feel the local public need to be warned of the issue,” said a resident from the area, who asked not to be identified.

“I have also contacted the PSNI who have said they are going to investigate the matter.”

The Mail contacted the police who said they were not aware of any recent thefts in the Sperrin Drive and Greenvale areas.
