Gala dinner held to celebrate tercentenary

Londonderry’s magnificent Guildhall was the opulent setting on Saturday night for a gala banquet in celebration of the Tercentenary of the Formation of the Apprentice Boys Association.

The event was a platform for the Mitchelburne Parent Club to formally embark on a year-long calendar of events to celebrate the Tercentenary of the formation of the Association in 1714 by Colonel John Mitchelburne.

In April President Bro Kenny Kincaid outlined the events the Mitchelburne Club proposed to hold throughout the celebration year, and the launch included the Dean of Derry, the Very Reverend William Morton, dedicating the new Mitchelburne book, by Bro Colin Campbell, as well as a commemorative badge and tie.

The banquet, in addition to being a glittering event to celebrate the 300th anniversary, was also an opportunity for ABOD members to get together for a celebration of their culture and mark one of the City’s notable historic events.
