LYS was formed in 1993 by Geoffrey Cherry and Gillian Jones to showcase young local talent and has become a platform for many young people who have gone on to pursue a career in the performing arts industry.

Although some of the young people intend to pursue performing as a career there are a large number who take part just for fun.

A spokesperson said: “The summer workshop atmosphere is a great physical and social outlet for the young people, who make lasting relationships with their fellow cast members and can’t help returning year after year.”

This year got off to a good start for the company, which was nominated for a National Operatic and Drama Association award for best youth show with its 2015 production of ‘High School Musical- On Stage’ and it hopes to continue its success with its next production.
