Gift car crushed by authorities

A BALLYMONEY man who bought his daughter a car for a present had to stand by as it was crushed when it was found to have no tax by the authorities.

Michael Walker (52) of Westgate pleaded guilty to keeping a vehicle without tax at North Antrim Magistrates Court on Friday.

A solicitor for Walker told the court his client had bought the car for his daughter to learn to drive in at a cost of 400.

It was in need of repair and was left at the side of a road so that it could be picked up and taken to a garage, the solicitor said.

It had not been taxed and this came to the attention of authorities who had it removed and scrapped.

The solicitor said the vehicle had not been used on the road since purchased by Walker which is why it had not been taxed.

Walker was ordered to pay arrears of 10, court costs of 32 and a fine of 50.
