Glenravel P.S. hat-trick win

Councillor Billy Ashe visited the school in Martinstown to mark its achievement in winning the Northern Ireland Primary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Challenge for a third time.

The Sentinus Young Innovators final took place in the Ulster University Campus at Jordanstown where schools representing all the Northern Ireland Education Board areas participated.

Teams were challenged with planning, designing and constructing a bridge which could be raised and lowered using a pulley system – and to the delight of all at the school – Glenravel won the competition for the third time in four years

When he called in last week Cllr Ashe met this year’s team members Ciara McCormick, Katie McToal and Daniel Montgomery and heard about the exciting event which was hosted by tv presenter Frank Mitchell.

Speaking during his visit, Mayor Ashe said: “This is a very prestigious achievement for Glenravel and, indeed, the three pupils who represented the school.

“I am happy to both recognise and celebrate this accolade for both the school and the individual pupils.

“This is a very positive news story for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council,” he said.
