Harvest Festival in Killowen Parish Church

JEWISH and Christian cultures across the world annually celebrate Harvest.

The celebration goes back to the time of Moses when God commanded the people to celebrate fruit of the land.

Harvest Thanksgiving Services in the Churches have their roots in this ancient Festival of Tabernacles .It was a time of rejoicing with music, choirs ceremonial processions and feasting.

This year Killowen Parish Church in Coleraine will be adopting many of the elements of the Jewish celebration

Parishioners and visitors will be ablse to see on display a Jewish scroll such as Jesus would have read, a life-sized booth, a water feature and coloured lights with a Menorah.

In addition there will be a mixture of local and Israeli produce in the church.

These will all be linked to the life of Jesus as we know he attended the Feast while on earth.
