Houses near Magherafelt targeted in hate crime

Sectarian and homophobic slogans have been sprayed on houses in the village of Curran, near Magherafelt.

Police say they are treating the incident as a hate crime.

An investigating officer told the Mail that three properties were targeted on Monday night of this week.

DUP Councillor Paul McLean strongly condemned the incident.

“There is no place for this type of activity in our community and I would urge anyone with information to report it to the local police,” he said.

“We are treating these occurrences as hate incident and I would ask anyone with any information or anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Curran area to contact officers in Magherafelt on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” said a PSNI spokesperson.
