I’m a farmer, get me outta here!

Members of the Kilcreggan Youth Group made the most of the last few days of summer freedom with an “Urban Farmer” fun day at Kilcreggan Urban Farm on Thursday.

Part of the group’s summer scheme, the event saw 30 young people enjoy a camping sleepover in the grounds of the farm, with fun challenges inspired by the popular ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’ TV show.

Located beside the supported housing development Kilcreggan Homes, the farm provides opportunities for youth group members, tenants and other service users on day placement to develop skills in animal care and horticulture.

Kilcreggan Homes resident and farm volunteer Joe Hoey, who provided music for the event, praised the therapeutic nature of working at the farm.

“I take care of the animals, cleaning out their cages and feeding them, and tend to the vegetables as well,” he said. “It’s keeps me occupied, so a good thing to get involved in.”
