Jobless rate drops five per cent

The Jobseekers’ Allowance claimant count in Larne reduced by 5.1 per cent in a month, latest statistics reveal.

There were 54 fewer claimants in April than in March, but year-on-year there are still 157 more claimants in the borough, representing an 18.3 per cent annual rise.

The total number of claimants in Larne is 1,014.

The data also indicates there are 15,000 Larne people in work (12,000 full-time), with 11,000 aged 16-64 said to be economically inactive.
