Kilrea so proud of its new play park facility

Political representatives have welcomed the opening of the new play park in Kilrea.

In a joint statement, councillors Roisin Loftus (SDLP) and Richard Holmes (UUP) paid tribute to those involved from Coleraine Council and a variety of other agencies in bringing the Environmental Improvement Scheme, the Park and Riverside Project to fruition.

““This play park is a great investment in Kilrea and provides a facility equal to anything the Borough has on offer.

“The project by local artist Conor Larkin with the children from both schools in the town, created a piece of artwork using

their hands which should act as a message of co-operation to everyone.

“Over £300,000 has been invested in Kilrea with much of the money coming through

the European funding and has enabled the town to strengthen its link with the River Bann, partly through the creation of a cycle path from the Diamond to Portneal Lodge.

“So much work has gone into these projects from the council officers who secured

the funding, the contractors who developed and implemented the various projects and the numerous agencies who funded and supported our vision for Kilrea.

““We are delighted we had the vision to support this scheme from the outset and we now have a great park which children and their parents can enjoy for many years to come.”

John Dallat MLA added: “‘This park is a positive statement that the people of Kilrea want to move forward together in a spirit of friendship and working together for the common good of everyone who visits the town.”
