Lapse led to collision at '˜dangerous' junction

A momentary lapse of concentration at a dangerous junction led to a collision between two vans, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Mark Samuel Erin Hewitt (46), whose address was given as Woodlands Manor, Portadown, was fined £250 for driving without due care and attention on November 20 last year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and five penalty points were imposed on his driving licence.

The court heard that at 4.50pm a road traffic collision happened at the junction of the Battlehill Road and Kilmore Road.

A van was travelling along the Battlehill Road and as it approached the Kilmore Road on the nearside a vehicle pulled out causing a collision.

A barrister representing the defendant said it was a momentary lapse of concentration on the part of his client.

He explained that it was a dangerous junction and the defendant did not concentrate enough on what was on his right. He was more concerned with the left of the road.
