A woman has died in a two-vehicle crash on the Magherafelt Road, Moneymore.
The accident happened shortly before 9am this morning and involved a red Peugoet 107 and a white Nissan Qashqai.
Another female injured during the incident has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
The road remains closed between its junctions with the Gortagilly Road and Carmean Road. Motorists are advised to seek alternative main routes for their journey.
Officers investigating this incident are keen to hear from witnesses and can be contacted at the Collision Investigation Unit by calling the non-emergency number 101.
Ulster Unionist Assembly Member, Sandra Overend, described the collision “as devastating news for the community in Mid-Ulster”.
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of an individual following a road traffic accident on the roads in Mid-Ulster this morning,” she said.
“Every death and injury on our roads is a personal tragedy and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the individual who was killed, and the individual who is currently in hospital with serious injuries.”
